Despite their name, knee highs or knee-high socks don’t actually hit right on the knee, which would not be very comfortable! The term usually refers to tall socks that end just below, on the upper calf. Over-the-knee socks however, which as the name suggests go a little higher, are sometimes also called knee-highs. Don’t confuse them with thigh-highs though, which reach even further up the leg. Knee highs are a great choice for pairing with pants or long skirts, when you don’t need your hosiery to cover your whole leg.
